Just over a week ago, we were out on the trails enjoying the majestic beauty of winter in northern Bayfield County with our new friends and guests. Today it feels like spring has sprung. But it’s still early, and ‘Ol Man Winter will return! Just a reminder to our snowmobiling guests, the trail is not directly accessed from Woodside Cottages. For the best snowmobiling in Wisconsin, it is a short 7-mile drive to the loading/unloading lot.

Many people ask about the ice caves. In order to have sufficient ice form, there needs to be prolonged periods of cold and light winds. When they do form enough ice, the Park Service will make an announcement. That may or may not occur, depending on weather conditions. If they do, it is a phenomenal thing and certainly worth the time to come to Bayfield to see them.

The ferry service will continue to operate between Bayfield and Madeline Island as long as the ice can be kept open. We think the ferry ran all Winter last year but did close for a few weeks the Winter of 2014-2015. When the ferry does cease to operate, the Wind Sleds are available until the Ice Road is open for vehicle traffic.

Our website has a lodging special posted which offers a 25% discount after the first night. At this time, the offer is good through the end of April.

When there is sufficient snow, its a lot of fun to “shoe” and you can do that right from the front door of your Cottage. We maintain a 1/2-hour route along the woods and around our grounds. And then you can enjoy a warm jacuzzi in one of our Cottages. We have direct access to the Brownstone Trail from Woodside Cottages. We also have several other options for snowshoeing within a short drive from here.

Every season is beautiful in Bayfield! Come see for yourself!
